“The Part-Time Faculty Association of Allan Hancock College is looking forward to the new semester, Spring 2025, which is already off to a good start.  We are pleased to share that PFA President Mark James Miller’s presentation “Preventing the Holocaust” was very well received at the DEIA Summit on February 7.  Every seat in F-257 in the Fine Arts Complex was taken, and the result was standing room only.  In this day and age, with the rise of intolerance and extremism all around us, there is no topic more important than this one.

“We are looking forward to sending as many people as we can to the Planning Retreat on March 7, and to doing the same at the AI Summit on April 18.  In that Artificial Intelligence is becoming one of the most talked about issues in education nowadays, the more we can learn about it, the better.  Being uninformed on this important subject is not an option.

“As has been previously reported, the PFA is the recipient of a $15,000 grant from the American Federation of Teachers, money designated to strictly for the purpose of helping our members become more knowledgeable on classroom technology and AI.  Our executive board recently voted to contribute $1,000 to help pay the expenses of the upcoming AI Summit.

“This semester will be the last regular term for PFA President Mark James Miller, who will be retiring after the 2025 Summer Session.  He has been employed at Allan Hancock College for 30 years and has been President of the Part-Time Faculty Association since 2001.  A special election will be held in the fall to elect a new Association President.”
